Our wonderful region is full of culture, sound, colours and flavours!

Beauvais sur Matha is ideally situated for exploring both the Charante Maritime and the Charente Departments. The cost-line, the different islands, rivers & lakes, culture, the Roman heritage, vine & Cognac, food & markets.
Our region has it all!

There are so many places to see and to visit, here are some of our favorites.

  • Cognac & Jarnac
    A tour of the world famous cognac houses is a must. Most of the major producers have very informative, guided tours daily, throughout the season. Follow the river Charante from Cognac to Jarnac the home of Courvoisier. If you love Jazz and music, the festival of Cognac called Cognac Blues Passion is the place to be in June/July. Approx. 20 min.
  • St Jean d’Angely
    The fabulous indoor market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, gets you in the true French spirit. A break for a lunch or coffee and then a stroll around the village and visit the Abbey with its two famous towers. Approx 20 min.
  • Saintes
    The well preserved roman theatre, the old town and history, and the Roman heritage of this old town makes you really think about the splendour of historian architect. Approx. 40 min.
  • Angouleme
    The ramparts of Angoul?me is worth a visit by itself, but the city has so much more to offer. The market hall, shopping, museums of comic strips and making of fine paper. In February, Angoul?me keeps a comic strip festival, known throughout the world! Approx. 40 min.
  • The coastline
    The coastline with Talmon, Mersher, St-Georges de Didonne, Royan and the seaside towards Palmyre, it’s a must. Approx. 1 hour.
  • La Rochelle
    The old port and the old town. The history of trading, the yachts and the aquarium. You just have to spend a day in this lovely city! One of the biggest music festival in France, The Franco follies take’s place here in July. Approx. 1 hour.
  • The islands of Oleron and Ree
    These two islands are very different but both are so much worth a visit. The lighthouses, coastlines, villages and the seafood makes you want to come back to these amazing islands over and over again. In Saint Trojan les Bain they celebrate the arrival of spring with a big festival in February when the Mimosas comes to flower. Approx. 1 hour.


There are lakes for fishing , You can go canoeing on the rivers. Play golf, there are 22 clubs in Poitou-Charentes!  Watch birds in the marsh-lands. Go hiking and have a history and/or nature walk . A lazy on the beach.  Reading a good book. Spending a long afternoon on a restaurant.
